    Gemalto provides ID, payment cards for Brazil's Santander Universities Group

    Digital security provider Gemalto is supplying the Banco Santander Universities Group, which currently partners with 700 universities around the world, with multi-functional contactless campus ID cards that can be used as a debit card while controlling access to university buildings.

    Sagem, GTSI awarded Port of Miami contract

    GTSI Corp., an IT infrastructure solutions and services provider, announced that it has partnered with Sagem Morpho Inc. to supply the Port of Miami with physical access control readers.     Coffee Republic launches payment and loyalty program

    UK’s Coffee Republic, which began accepting contactless cards earlier this year, has now rolled out its own loyalty and payment card system using sQuid eMoney’s service. The new prepaid card will include multiple purses and is designed to replace cash transactions in fast food environments.

    NFC no answer for mobile payments, but alternatives offer promise

    NFC’s slow development could cause it to lag behind other mobile payment solutions for at least six years, according to New York-based ABI Research’s latest report. In the mean time, the study notes, three existing technologies–text messaging, mobile Internet and downloadable mobile applications–have the potential to deliver what NFC so far has not.
